Bluegrass Lions Diabetes Project (BLDP) wants to educate Kentuckians about the risk of diabetes. Approximately 567,000 people in the Bluegrass State have diabetes, of these, an estimated 108,000 have diabetes and don't know it. Lion Pat Ryan (Lexington Lions Club) wants your Lions Club to host a free screening event in your community. BLDP provides these A1C tests to members of the public free of charge. Lion Pat wants to train your club members to become screeners to work together to make an impact !

Lion Pat Ryan heads up the Diabetes efforts of Kentucky Multiple District 43. As a recipient of an LCIF Diabetes Grant, Pat is the Project Manager for the District 43Y Bluegrass Lions Diabetes Project. He is Past President of the Lexington Lions Club, a Melvin Jones Fellow, and a Finis Davis Fellow.

The diabetes rate in Appalachia is 17%
3,000 children have a diabetes diagnosis.
13.3% of Kentucky adults had a diabetes diagnosis in 2019... That is a 6.5% increase from 2000.
